Join the Texas State Guard – Gulf Coast Medical Response Group

The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is all about Texans helping Texans


Joining the TXSG affords your the opportunity to give back to your community and your state. The TXSG provides emergency assistance in times of need and during disasters. The Gulf Coast Medical Response Group is recruiting both medical and non-medical personnel.

Applications from physicians, nurses, EMT’s, mental health professionals, veterinary professionals and non-medical support personnel are sought. Prior military service is not required. The Texas Medical Rangers provide surge capacity medical response only inside the State of Texas and are not subject to federal service. Be a surge responder and use your skills to help your fellow Texans!

Requirements for Joining the Texas State Guard

The following criteria are required to be met for incoming personnel:

  • Resident of Texas or enrolled student
  • Age 18-65. Age requirements may be waived for people who have a health- related license or experience.
  • Reasonable Good Health
  • Pass criminal background check
  • Prior Military Service NOT required
  • Any skill set (Rescue, Medical, Logistical Support, Shelter Management, Civil Affairs, and Communications are very welcome)
  • No educational requirement for enlistment
  • Educational and age requirements exist for officer commissioning.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License

How to Join The Texas State Guard

  • Print and fill out the TXSG application: Galveston_Medical_Response_Group_Short_Application_Ltr_3.pdf
  • Bring copies of the specified documents to the next meeting.
  • Come to the unit drills. Drills are generally held two evenings a month for Alpha Company and the first Saturday of the month for Bravo Company. Contact us below for details regarding location, date, and time. We will add you to the Applicants Email List so that you will receive drill reminders and other information by email.

The application process is very time-consuming and usually takes several months. Even if your application hasn’t yet been approved, come to the drills!
