GCMRG Update – 06 Jun 11

Our Group has had some recent changes, and LTC Vertrees would like to keep all our members updated.

MAJ Paul McCarthy, after serving with distinction as the first Executive Officer for the Group for the past six months, will be assuming command of Co. B, our Brazoria County Company.

1LT Carolyn Dickerson, our S1 and SSG Jonathan Dickerson, HHC 1st SGT, welcomed a baby girl 2 weeks ago. While 1LT Dickerson is out on maternity leave, all personnel actions will be handled by a team headed by WO1 Teresa George and assisted by SPC Cynthia Posey and CPL Amber Bryan. There are several other personnel in consideration for training. Any short applications and documents should be mailed to:

Please check out the new website. The name has been changed to reflect our new reach along the Gulf Coast. We are still officially Galveston MRG, but Gulf Coast MRG will be our nickname and will be used in our promotional materials so we won’t scare off recruits from other cities.

Anyone who is interested in joining, please refer them to the website to “Join TXSG” where there is a downloadable short form and instructions. Also, give their name to SSG Wadley, SGT Threatt, or 2LT Bryan to let them know there is someone that may need more information given to them. They will also try to determine which Company is best for them, or if the 8th Regiment would be a better fit.

Other cities we are actively recruiting for Medical Companies include Huntsville and College Station. We expect the list to get longer. If you know anyone interested personnel in any of these cities, please let us know!

2LT Travis Bryan will be actively recruiting for Co. C, in Pasadena, now that he has returned to Texas. He has also agreed to make the trip to Beaumont, along with SPC Roy Landry to get our Beaumont Company up to speed as quickly as possible. We have as many as 20 possible recruits just waiting to sign up.

SPC Jason Grieger has recently joined us as S2 NCO and SSG David Wright is our new S4 NCO.

CPT Ross Keiser will be assuming the S3 position and CPT Williams will be concentrating his efforts on Commander of HHC.

We have recently had two new officers commissioned into our Group: CPT Steve Gove and WO1 Ronald Whatley.

CPT Gove will join HHC as the new Shelter Management Officer. WO1 Whatley will be assigned to Co. A and is coming in as a Communications Officer.

And, lastly, I have been named Executive Officer for the GCMRG. Please let your Commander know if you can volunteer any of your time between drills to help out in recruiting drives to other cities, doing paperwork, or any computer skills that might be handy. We need a lot of help to keep this organization running smoothly. Thank you for being a part of it.
